Phyllis

Phyllis with her long hair flying like the devil in the night
You can’t make out her face ’cause your eyes are blinded by the light
You care, beware, gamble with her if you dare
Last time I tried, I lost, and Phyllis took my share

Her house in Sausalito is the kind that’s not meant to be
Sloping off the cliff like a ship floating out into the sea
When I went there, she was perched like a spider in her lair
But I wanted her smile, and anyway I didn’t care

I stayed through the fall, I stayed ’til disease felled the pines
The trees were all dying from the roses that wrapped around their spines
I was weak in spirit, all my resistance was gone
She took everything I had as I knew she would all along
